Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with camping allows you to explore the last part of the Classic Inca Trail in one day, visit Chachabamba, Wiñaywayna, Sun Gate, and arrive at Machu Picchu late in the afternoon to see the Inca citadel when everybody is leaving. The afternoon arrival through the Sun Gate is perfect for pictures and enjoying the spectacular Inca site with the sunset and is almost empty. Day 1: Cusco – Km104 – Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes).- The tour starts with a pick up from your hotel at 4:00 am and a drive to Ollantaytambo to take the first trains to Chachabamba (Km 104) to start the Inca Trail. The hike to Machu Picchu takes around 7 hours, visiting Chamchamba, Wiñaywayna, Sungate, amazing views, flowers, birds, orchids, and arrive at Machu Picchu when it is almost empty. Day 2: Machu Picchu (The Lost City of the Incas) – Cusco.- Wake up early, have breakfast in your hotel, and board the first buses to Machu Picchu; your tour guide will take you on a short hike to Inca Bridge. Next, you’ll explore the most beautiful places in Machu Picchu for around 3 hours, and then you’ll have free time to enjoy free time or hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (optional). Once you are done exploring the citadel, take the Expedition train back to Cusco. Drop off at your hotel around 7.30 pm. Optional hikes after the guided tour in Machu Picchu: Huayna Picchu Mountain – Takes 2 hours to hike round trip; you must hike after the Machu Picchu tour; the cost is $75 extra per person. Machu Picchu Mountain (Montaña) – Takes around 3.5 hours to finish this mountain, the highest mounatin in the area, and the cost $75 extra per person.
The tour starts in Cusco around 4:00 am to drive until Ollantaytambo. We take the 1.5-hours train ride along the banks of the Urubamba River to Chachabamba (Km. 104) (We recommend staying in Ollantaytambo the day before and save 2-hours travel the next day). Once you arrive at Km 104, you’ll need to show your original passport at the checkpoint. Next, you’ll later start with the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, exploring first the Inca site of Chachabamba with your private trekking guide, then continue along the 500-year-old Inca Trail until Wiñaywayna, the largest and most spectacular Inca site from the Inca Trail. Explore the buildings, temples, water fountains, and the spectacular view of the Andes. Organic box lunch is provided at the beginning of the trek; you’ll enjoy your lunch nearby the Winaywayna. Next, continue after lunch for 1 hour to Sungate, from where you’ll have the first glimpse of the spectacular Inca city of Machu Picchu; after spending some me-time with the incredible views, you’ll continue for one more hour to Machu Picchu. Explore the upper part of Machu Picchu in the afternoon; this will give you the chance to see Machu Picchu with lees people and enjoy the great view for that photo with the sunset. Later, take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, check-in at the hotel, have dinner in Indio Feliz (the best restaurant in town), and rest early for the next and most important day. Wake up early in your hotel, have breakfast, and board the 30-minutes bust drive to Machu Picchu. On a clear day, if the weather allows, you’ll enjoy the spectacular sunrise over the mountains. Your exclusive private tour guide will take you on a 3-hours tour to the Inca Bridge, temples, palaces, streets. Then you’ll time to explore by yourself or take the optional hikes to Huayna Picchu Mounatin or Machu Picchu Mountain (Montaña); you need to book the permits long before you want to hike. This is not included in the regular tour. After finishing with Machu Picchu, you’ll take the bust down to Aguas Calientes to have lunch (not included). Later in the afternoon, board the Vistadome Panoramic train back to Ollantaytambo, where our private transportation will be waiting for you and transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco. During the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, we do not use porters; this means that you must to carry all your equipment during the one day hike along the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu Tour on day 2; if your backpack is small, we can arrange to transfer part of your stuff by train to the hotel. For this tour, you need to take it.
WHAT TO DO IN CUSCO? Upon arrival to Cusco (3033 m / 11154ft), you need to take some time to acclimatize to the high altitude of the city. We recommend taking tours around the city like the city tour of Cusco, Sacred Valley Tour before taking the long trip to Machu Picchu. This way you’ll reduce the risk of getting altitude sickness. If you have on Schedule tours like Rainbow Mountain or Humantay Lake, please try to plan after the Machu Picchu Tour. WEATHER IN CUSCO? Cusco has two seasons: The rainy season from November to March and the dry season from April to October. However, weather in the Andes is unpredictable so it doesn’t matter when you come just bring good rain gear, also prepare for sunny days. The only one thing you can say about the weather in Peru is that it is difficult to accurately predict. ALTITUDE SICKNESS OR “SOROCHE” At high altitude, the air is thinner and each body starts to react differently for the changes in oxygen levels. So basically there is less oxygen going into your body than you’re used to. To counteract you need to breathe faster and deeper and pump blood more rapidly in order to take the same amount of oxygen. This could be shocking to your body manifesting in various symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, poor appetite, lack of sleep. Cusco is at 11,152 feet (3,399 meters) so you may experience some symptoms, on the other hand, Machu Picchu is significantly lower at 7,972 ft (2,430 m). So Machupicchu isn’t really the potential problem. The best way to deal with the altitude is: Breathing exercise. Deep breaths will help you get more oxygen in your body. The best way to acclimatize faster is drinking water, resting, having normal activities. Drink lots of water. This will really help you, but lots of water and try to go to the toilet often. Coca tea. It is in every corner in Cusco city, this plant used through centuries in Cusco to reduce altitude problems. Avoid alcohol and drugs. Alcohol is a big no at high altitude, so avoid the first days to your trek. The celebration is at the end. We will deliver to you at no cost. NUMBER OF VISITORS TO INCA TRAIL AND MACHU PICCHU? The number of visitors to the Inca trail has a limit of 500 per day and 2500 to Machu Picchu, according to UNESCO recommendations. Therefore, it is recommended to book in advance, especially during the high season. The trains are usually full so make your reservations in advance. You can book your visit to Machupicchu only or a ticket including the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountains. As long as the name is the same we can update any passport number needed. If you have an old passport and a new one, please send us a photocopy of both. If you don’t have the old you can send any ID with your name. Remember to bring both passports when you travel. DO I NEED TO CARRY MY PERSONAL STUFF? We provide a porter for your belongings (7kg), so you can go carrying only your daypack. WHO GETS DISCOUNT? If you have a valid UNIVERSITY STUDENT CARD at the time or you are under 17. you are entitled to a discount. In order to claim this discount, you have to send us a photocopy of this card.
