Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Salkantay Basecamp.- Depart from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am, drive for 3 hours to Soraypampa, and have breakfast with your trekking team. After breakfast, start a half-day hike to the stunning Humantay lake. The campsite is at Salkantaypampa (3900 m / 12795 ft) Day 2: Basecamp – Salkantay Pass – Collpapampa.-Wake up early with a cup of coca tea served in your tent facing the Salkantay Mountain (6271 m / 20574 ft). After breakfast, start the day with a 2-hour ascent to Salkantay Pass (4620 m / 15190 ft). Then, descend for 6 hours through various ecological zones until you arrive at the Jungle village of Collpapampa (2827 m /9274 ft). Day 3: Collpapampa – Lucmabamba – Llaqtapata.- After breakfast in the village, begin hiking for 3 hours along the cloud forest to Lucmabamba. Stop for lunch along the way and then continue to the coffee plantations located in Lucmabamba (2009 m / 6591 ft). Lunch is a special Pachamanca barbecue. Then hike for 3 hours to the 3rd campsite Llaqtapata (2573 m / 88447 ft), here you’ll have the first glimpse of Machu Picchu. Day 4: Llaqtapata – Hidroelectica station – Aguas Calientes.- Wake up, open your tent, and you’ll see Machu Picchu from your luxury tent. The day starts with a 2 hour downhill to Hidroelctica station, and follow the trains track for 3 hours to Aguas Calientes (2040 m / 6692 ft). Along the way, you’ll visit the sundial rock and Mandor gardens, both of them visited by Hiram Bingham III. Spend the night in a 4-star hotel. Day 5: Explore Machu Picchu – Return To Cusco.- Explore early the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The guided tour takes around 4Â hours. After being collected from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am, drive for 3 hours to Soraypampa (3848 m / 12624 ft), where you’ll enjoy the first breakfast prepared by your expert trekking chef. Afterward, start a gentle 2-hours climb to Humantay Lake (4257 m / 13966 ft). Explore the surroundings, take plenty of photos at the turquoise color lake, and then start descending for another 2 hours back to Soraypamapa, where teh chef will be waiting for you with lunch. After lunch, continue along the meandering stream up for 2 hours until you reach the campsite is at Salkantaypampa (3900 m / 12795 ft). Your trekking team will have ready your luxury and spacious tents that you’ll use as a dormitory, the dining tents with tables, chairs, the kitchen tent, and a warm tent where you can enjoy a relaxing Inca massage with a local therapist. Your trekking team will wake you up early with a nice cup of coca tea or coffee in your tent, start preparing for the day, pack your stuff, and enjoy breakfast with the Salkantay Mountain (6271 m / 20574 ft). This day is the longest and most challenging of the trek. Start the day with a 2-hour ascent to Salkantay Pass (4620 m / 15190 ft). When we reach, take some time to enjoy the fantastic vistas of the snowcapped mountain. Then, descend for 2 hours to Wayracmachay (3920 m / 12860 ft) for Lunch. The second part of the days is 4 hours and into the cloud forest, passing through various ecological zones until you arrive at the Jungle village of Collpapampa (2827 m /9274 ft). You’ll have available drinks, hot showers, and massage sessions. Wake up in the village of Collpapampa, have breakfast with the beautiful views of the mounatin you hiked the day before. After a nutritious breakfast, begin walking for 3 hours along the cloud forest to Lucmabamba. Along the way, you’ll see beautiful waterfalls, wild orchids, fruit-bearing trees. We’ll hike only for 3 hours, then take a van to Lucmabamba (2009 m / 6591 ft) for lunch and rest for the second part of the day. Lunch is a typical Pachamanca, an underground barbecue with hot stones; you’ll participate actively in the preparation, visit an organic coffee farm, and learn the harvesting process. After the special lunch, join and ancient Inca Trail and hike up for 3-hours to the third and best campsite, Llaqtapata (2573 m / 88447 ft); this spectacular place is located on a mountain ridge in front of Machu Picchu, where you’ll have the first glimpse of Machu Picchu. The campsite is situated in a strategic spot where you’ll have the best view of Machu Picchu. WHAT TO DO IN CUSCO? Upon arrival to Cusco (3033 m / 11154ft), you need to take some time to acclimatize to the high altitude of the city. ALTITUDE SICKNESS OR “SOROCHE†At high altitude, the air is thinner and each body starts to react differently for the changes in oxygen levels. So basically there is less oxygen going into your body than you’re used to. To counteract you need to breathe faster and deeper and pump blood more rapidly in order to take the same amount of oxygen. This could be shocking to your body manifesting in various symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, poor appetite, lack of sleep. Cusco is at 11,152 feet (3,399 meters) so you may experience some symptoms, on the other hand, Machu Picchu is significantly lower at 7,972 ft (2,430 m). So Machupicchu isn’t really the potential problem. The best way to deal with the altitude is: Breathing exercise. Deep breaths will help you get more oxygen in your body. The best way to acclimatize faster is drinking water, resting, having normal activities. Drink lots of water. This will really help you, but lots of water and try to go to the toilet often. Coca tea. The number of visitors to the Inca trail has a limit of 500 per day and 2500 to Machu Picchu, according to UNESCO recommendations. Therefore, it is recommended to book in advance, especially during the high season. The trains are usually full so make your reservations in advance. You can book your visit to Machupicchu only or a ticket including the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountains. As long as the name is the same we can update any passport number needed. If you have an old passport and a new one, please send us a photocopy of both. If you don’t have the old you can send any ID with your name.
