Huchuy Qosqo Trek at a Glance:

Day 1: Cusco - Tambomachay - Kenko

Depart from Cusco at 7:00 am and drive for 20 minutes towards the archaeological site of Tambomachay. The hike takes 7 hours to the campsite at Pukamarca Village (3800m/12,467ft), passing through local communities, beautiful mountain lakes, and vast grassland where llamas and alpacas feed.

Day 2: Pukamarca - Huchuy Qosqo - Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, hike for 1 hour to Huchuy Qosqo Inca City, located on top of the Sacred Valley, offering magnificent views. After exploring, head downhill for 2 hours to Lamay for a special Pachamanca barbecue lunch. Take the Afternoon train to Aguas Caliente and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 3: Discover Machu Picchu - Return to Cusco

On the final day, take the early buses up to Machu Picchu and explore the Inca citadel with your tour guide. After the 3-4 hours guided tour, have time to hike Huayna Picchu or Montaña (optional). Afternoon Vistadome panoramic train back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 7.30 pm.

Full Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco - Tambomachay - Pukamarca

You will be collected from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 am and drive for 20 minutes towards the archaeological site of Tambomachay (3812 m /12506 Ft), and start the trek. Here, you'll start the expedition to the legendary lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu. The first part is a gentle 4-hour climb, passing through local communities, beautiful mountain lakes, and large grassland where llamas and alpacas feed. This area is home to various birds, including Wallatas (love birds), partridges, and lapwings, all of which are regularly spotted throughout the day. Lunch is at Koricocha Lake (4049 m / 13284 ft). After enjoying the fresh meals prepared by your trekking chef, continue three more hours up and down to the campsite is located at the small Andean village of Kenko (3800m/12,467ft). Here, it is a good opportunity to understand their lifestyle, interact with local children, and visit the houses to see how they live and what they have. You can take some gifts if you like.

Day 2: Kenko - Huchuy Qosqo - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

Awakening in the Peruvian Andes with the most amazing views is an unforgettable experience. After breakfast, you'll for 1 hour and visit the Huchuy Qosqo Inca City, located on top of the Sacred Valley; a city built more than 500 hundred years ago by the Incas. Now lies on top of the mountain, offering us a magnificent view of buildings, sacred temples, farming terraces, storehouses, water channels, and an Inca reservoir. After exploring with your tour guide, you'll have time to enjoy yourself. Then, head to Lamay for 2 hours; lunch today is a special Pachamanca underground barbecue; you'll participate in burying the different kinds of meat, vegetables, and fruits, and finally, enjoy the feast. After lunch, drive to Ollantaytambo, a beautiful city located in the middle of the mountains with many natural and cultural history. We will have time to explore the city considered “the last living Inca city. Dinner will be at a local restaurant, and later to catch a 7 p.m. train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will register at your hotel and relax after the Huchuy Qosqo Trek.

Day 3: Discover Machu Picchu - Return to Cusco

On the final day, wake up early to take the first bus up to Machu Picchu. You'll enter Machu Picchu and explore with your tour guide. First, take a short hike to Sungate or Inca Bridge, then follow your tour guide as you learn about the Incas and visit all the most famous temples, palaces, and streets. Afterward, take some free time to explore the site by yourself or take the extra hike to either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain ( not included and completely different from Machu Picchu Citadel). 

Once you finish with Machu Picchu, you'll take the 30-minute bus down to Aguas Calientes, and have lunch in the city (not included). Later in the afternoon, take the Vistadome Panoramic Train back to Ollantaytambo, where the Ultimate Trekking team will be waiting for you and transfer you back to Cusco. We arrive at your hotel around 7.30 pm, when we finish the Huchuy Qosqo Trek.
